Kolkata Metro has announced an increase in fare for passengers traveling on the last metro train, effective from December 10. The additional charge of ₹10 will apply to the final service of the day, which departs at 10:40 PM from both Kavi Subhash and Dumdum stations. Passengers traveling on this train will have to pay ₹10 more in addition to their existing fare.
The fare hike has been introduced by the Metro Rail authorities to address the increased operational costs associated with running late-night services. The last trains, which run after regular service hours, involve higher maintenance, energy consumption, and staffing costs. The additional ₹10 will help to cover these rising expenses, ensuring that the extended service remains financially viable.
The revised fare applies to all passengers traveling on the last metro trains from Kavi Subhash and Dumdum, which have seen an increase in demand in recent years. Metro officials clarified that the increase is specific to the last train only and does not affect the fares for other services running throughout the day.
This fare adjustment comes as part of ongoing efforts by Metro authorities to manage the financial challenges posed by the increased costs of operations. Despite the fare increase, the extended metro services will continue, ensuring that commuters can access transportation during late-night hours. The authorities have confirmed that the additional charges will only apply to the last train, with no changes to fares for other services at this time.
